A new concept has appeared in the rules – “Guide Islands”. This is an element of the way that shows the separation of streams or their fusion. It is on the same level as the roadway or elevated above it.
Now it is written in the traffic rules that stopping on such islands is prohibited. Previously, there was no such ban, which caused a lot of disputes. It was only forbidden to stop on safety islands designed to stop pedestrians crossing the roadway.

Unlike safety islands, the new guide islands do not have a similar function. They serve to make it easier to merge or separate traffic flows.
What changes for motorists from 1 March? Now it will be quite normal to get a fine of 500 rubles for stopping on the guide islands. And for the federal cities of Moscow or St. Petersburg, the fine reaches 2,500 rubles. In addition, local law allows illegally parked vehicles to be towed into a confiscated lot.
