A ban on buying, importing and transporting Russian oil products, including gasoline in cans, has come into effect in Estonia, Piret Tinkus, head of the prohibitions and restrictions service of the Estonian Tax and Customs Administration, said in a statement.
According to calculations by the department, almost 80% of passenger cars now have a ten-litre petrol jerry can in the trunk when crossing the Estonian border, in addition to a full fuel tank.
*This material was created by a person who has the status of a foreign agent in the Russian Federation.
Now such a “jerry can” is prohibited, since a resident of the European Union has the right to buy fuel in Russia only if it is necessary to complete the journey and return to the territory of the EU.
You may only import into the European Union the fuel that is in the fuel tank of the vehicle and is intended for use therein.
Among other things, it is considered an offense to dump fuel from a vehicle after crossing the border and return it for a fee or free of charge. You can pump out fuel only in one case – when repairing a car. Then the fuel must be carefully pumped into the same car.
Violations of international sanctions carry a fine or imprisonment of up to five years, the ministry said in a statement.
