Now the topic of the possibility of changing the rules of the road and not punishing drivers is being actively discussed if they began to overtake where they should, completing it through a continuous marking line.
This proposal has both pros and cons. Supporters understand that it is dangerous to enter the oncoming lane separated by a solid marking line (or two), and so it is prohibited. But they hope for the caution of motorists who endanger themselves again and not others.

Expert opinion
Maxim Kadakov, editor-in-chief of the magazine “Behind the wheel”:
– I think such initiatives will arise more than once, but I am sure that no changes will be made in this part, as this cannot be regulated and we will still be in a large zone of abuse. The question immediately arises: what does it mean to completely overtake? Is it 10 meters, 50 meters? How do you explain to the traffic police inspector that you were overtaken not at 50 meters, but at 150 meters?
This problem was partially solved by the fact that the signs, which in Soviet times were placed only on the right side, were placed on both sides. For example, if you start to overtake a truck, and at that moment the truck is blocking the no-overtaking road going along the right side of the road, you will see the same sign on the left side in the oncoming lane. You understand (even if the marking has been cleared) that the sign prohibits overtaking and driving back. But such additional signs are not everywhere, especially on some major highways.
Another situation: the sign appears already during overtaking, you learn that from that moment overtaking is prohibited and you need to quickly make a decision – either slow down and “get out” back to your lane, or accelerate and overtake completely. Most of the time, overtaking is completed.
Even in this case, a certain “grey field” remains.
