Often drivers who have a car with automatic transmission do not use the parking brake, but in vain, especially on a slope. As a result, the load from the body on the latch of the bolt “falls” on the shaft of the box. The fastener wears out over time and starts to slip.
The cable for the gearbox control is pulled out, which means that problems with the electrics begin: the reversing lights are buggy, the starter motor can fail.
Expert “Behind the wheel” Aleksey Revin advises to always use the handbrake when parking on a slope, and to do this before moving the lever to the “park” position
Expert opinion
Alexey Revinexpert “Behind the wheel”:
What is R Mode? This is a coarse gear, which is connected to the output shaft of the bucket, and a mechanism with a lever. The steel lever gets between the gear teeth, blocks the movement – the wheels stop.
The catch is that the handle easily falls into the cavity, but it can be difficult to “remove” it from there. Owners of automatic transmission cars know how difficult it is to move the gear selector out of the P position when the car is on a slope.
He also advises not to put the selector lever in position P until the car has come to a complete stop. The latch will burst and steel particles broken off the surfaces will fall into the working fluid of the machine.
How
When parking, you need to press the brake pedal, and then, without releasing it, apply the parking brake, which reduces the load on the mechanical or electric drive. And only after that set the automatic transmission selector to position P.
When returning behind the wheel, the driver must act in the opposite direction. Press the brake pedal, move the automatic transmission selector to D or Reverse (R), then release the parking brake.
