Oboronlojistik, the operator of the Baltiysk-Ust-Luga ferry line, said that separate ferry services for cars from Leningrad to the Kaliningrad region have been launched. transmits TASS.
Due to the high demand for this service and the lack of carrying capacity, it was decided to start such flights. The first voyage from Ust-Luga in the Leningrad region to the port of Baltiysk near Kaliningrad has been completed, the next voyages are scheduled for January 29, February 18 and 25. A total of four ferries capable of carrying wheeled equipment are currently operating on the Baltiysk-Ust-Luga line.
“If this decision proves to be effective, 100% car trip planning practice will be implemented in the future,” the company said.
After the European Union imposed sanctions on Russia and restricted access to Kaliningrad by land, the goods within the scope of the ban began to be transported by sea with wagons and trucks. Experts noted that they managed to create a competitive market for the transportation of goods by sea lines to Kaliningrad, but there were not enough ships for the transport of wheeled equipment.
Last year reportedthat imports of cars from abroad to the Kaliningrad region increased by almost 80%.
