BYD, a Chinese company that has become the world’s largest electric vehicle manufacturer in less than 20 years, has launched a new car brand called YangWang that will compete with Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi.
To show off its capabilities, YangWang immediately unveiled a pair of luxury electric vehicles: an SUV called the U8 and a supercar called the U9.
YangWang U8 4×4 has a frame and is equipped with four electric motors – one for each wheel. The total power of electric motors is more than 1100 horsepower.
The Chinese company hasn’t revealed anything about the battery or range, but said the U8 has “enhanced torque vectoring” that can hit 60 mph in 3 seconds.
In addition, thanks to four independent motors and steerable rear wheels, the SUV can turn on the spot and drive diagonally. And it easily overcomes water obstacles and even swims thanks to a sealed body.
Another interesting ability of the SUV was its ability to continue driving at speeds of up to 120 km / h, even if the tire was flat. How this is implemented is unclear. Most likely, the car will get run-flat tires or a powerful wheel inflation system.
The SUV is 5,300 millimeters long and its wheelbase has been extended by 3,050 mm, making it about half a meter (508 mm) longer than Mercedes—Benz G class.
The car costs about 10 million rubles (about 1 million yuan).
The supercar YangWang U9 has the same engines as the SUV U8, but the power of each engine has been increased to 322 hp, giving a total power of 1288 hp. According to the company, the supercar accelerates to 100 km/h in just 2 seconds.
The price of YangWang U9 has not yet been revealed, but one million yuan was casually mentioned during the presentation. That is, both models will cost the same.
