From March 1, 2023, a new type of driver’s license will be issued – without a barcode on the back, the author of “Behind the Wheel” Sergei Zinoviev reminded motorists. The barcode on the rights appeared in 2011 and was intended to help police officers in the fight against fake driver’s licenses. But at the moment the need for it has disappeared and it is not used to read information.
Drivers who issued a driver’s license before the change do not urgently need to receive a new document: three additional years have been added to the validity of the old driver’s license. This means that the replacement can be handled later and all information about the relevance of documents is reflected in the database.
In addition, if we previously received a service for obtaining rights or for a replacement through the State Services portal, we received a 30% discount. No such discount will be provided before 2023, and this generally applies to all state tasks that were previously discounted: the issuance of a title and number plates, the issuance of a passport, payment for civil registry services, etc.
The official explanation is this: the discount was originally planned until 2019, after which it was repeatedly extended. Because no such request was received from any of the departments this year, it was decided to scrap it.
