The Sollers company and the Zavolzhsky Motor Plant, which is part of it, confirmed the resumption of production of ZMZ 523/524 series engines. Such engines have been made at ZMZ since 1963, production stopped in December 2021, but the famous Soviet V8s are back a year later.
“There is a renewed demand in the market for our range of V8 engines, both for new buses and the aftermarket. We see a clear market need for this engine for the coming years.”– says Ilnur Sakhabiev, director of the Zavolzhsky branch of UAZ, which manages the ZMZ plant.
Thus, unofficial information that appeared a few months ago was confirmed. It was officially announced that both modifications will return: the gasoline ZMZ-523 and the ZMZ-524, which runs on both gasoline and a propane-butane mixture. It is likely that the engines will be used on PAZ buses and GAZ medium trucks.
ZMZ 523/524 is one of the most famous engines of the USSR: 6,531,101 units were produced for 58 years of production. Production should resume in the first half of 2023.
