New foreign cars are only enough for one month of sales. Preparing for what?

In 2022, 45 car brands left Russia, now only 14 manufacturers operate in the country, three of them domestic and eleven Chinese.

Dealers have almost no models of the middle price category of delusional Kia, Hyundai, Toyota, Renault, Volkswagen, mainly expensive Chinese models remain. Given the volume of current sales, current stocks will last up to a month. Parallel imports of cars cannot yet meet the demand of the Russians and domestic production of cars of the Chinese brand is slowly increasing.

Experts suggest that the shortage of new cars could reach a million units next year.

Today, there are about 3,000 auto centers operating across the country, and by 2023 most may be left with empty warehouses.

Experts have calculated that the shortfall could be as high as 1.1 million cars, and mostly budget brands. It is simply unprofitable for dealers to import such cars now. Due to difficult supply routes and high excise duties, the price of a cheap car increases by at least 10% and people are not prepared to pay too much.

In conditions of scarcity, the Chinese have raised prices – now their cars can be bought for 2-3 million rubles, it is expensive.

What to hope

The shortage will persist in the coming months. From what will be produced by AVTOVAZ, Moskvich, imported from China and using parallel imports, a maximum of 750 thousand new cars will be typed in the coming year.

Next year, the car market can only hope that VAZ, GAZ and UAZ will be able to increase production capacity and impose competition on Chinese brands. Because only this will help reduce the price of cars.

Closer to the spring of 2023, it will become clearer with which brands and to what extent the Russian market will be filled.
