Police colonel Dmitry Mitroshin, head of the scientific center of road safety of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, appreciated the proposal to equip cars with anti-alcohol locks. He commented on the broadcast of the radio station. “TVNZ”.
Mitroshin called the idea good, but pointed to one drawback – it would be costly to implement. He also noted that such decisions are very difficult to pass at the legislative level.
According to the representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, alcohol locks are common in Russia. They are actively used in the field of transportation, where the cost of equipment reaches tens and hundreds of thousands of dollars.
The idea to install alcohol locks on all cars arose in May last year. The initiative was recommended by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the traffic police. It is planned to make it mandatory for drivers who have been brought to administrative responsibility for drunk driving at least once, to have such locks on their vehicles.
