From November 1 to November 27, with the support of the national project Safe High-Quality Roads, the All-Russian Online Olympiad “Safe Roads” was held on the educational platform Uchi.ru.
The Olympic Games are being held for the third year in a row and each time the popularity is increasing.
Marat Khusnullin, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation:
— Reducing road accidents is a task that is included in the national objective ‘Comfortable and safe living environment’. And the safety of children has the highest priority.
That is why the Safe Roads Olympiad, which aims to increase students’ knowledge of road safety measures, received a lot of response from children and parents.
More than 4 million 458 thousand students in grades 1-9 across the country participated in the online Olympiad in 2022, which is 700 thousand more than in the previous year.
The tasks of the Olympiad concerned the traffic rules for both pedestrians and drivers of vehicles. In 2022, it will contain tasks on individual means of mobility: scooters, gyro scooters, which are becoming more and more popular every year.
The organizers annually analyze the statistics of the passage of the Olympiad and highlight the issues that caused the greatest difficulties.
So, last year, the most difficult tasks for schoolchildren were tasks on knowledge of the rules of movement in the yard and on a bicycle. That is why the assignments have been supplemented this season and special training exercises have been developed on these topics.
Oleg PonaryinMajor General of Police, Deputy Head of the Main Directorate of Road Safety of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs:
– Protecting the life and health of children when participating in traffic is and remains a priority for the National Traffic Inspectorate. That is why it is so important to support projects aimed at preventing accidents involving this category of road user.
The Olympiad has an online format, this is its peculiarity and undoubted advantage, as it offers the opportunity to expand the geography of potential participants, and the very process of teaching children the basics of safe behavior on the road makes it unobtrusive .
I am glad that, in addition to our main target group – minors, teachers and parents actively participated in the Olympiad, helping children to prepare for it. Targeted traffic education contributes to achieving “zero” road deaths.
Care and knowledge reduce risks
Children regularly attend school, attend extracurricular activities and leisure facilities, and it is the job of specialists to make their routes safer. Since the start of the national High Quality Safe Roads project, more than 3,000 road sections leading to children’s institutions have been repaired in Russian regions.
Road workers equip pedestrian crossings, modernize traffic lights, erect fences, etc. near schools, kindergartens, art houses. And if children still know and follow the traffic rules, the risk of getting into an unpleasant situation becomes minimal.
