The production of non-standard plates, repeating the design of the numbers of Germany, England and other European countries, is now offered by the same companies that produce copies of ordinary Russian numbers.
In particular, at least two firms from St. Petersburg are asking for 2.5 thousand rubles for a series of numbers with the font “Under Germany” and a blue field in the left margin, or 1.5 thousand for a plate. Issue of numbers with a font similar to that used in Belarus will cost the same amount.

The main feature of such numbers is the complete absence of any connection with Russia: there is no identifier “RUS”, as well as the Russian tricolor, and the style of the letters is different.
At the same time, on such plates, the alphanumeric code of the state registration plate (GRZ) will fully match the one assigned to the car in the traffic police of the Russian Federation (see photo). In other words, the official compliance of the data on the vehicle in the state registration certificate and the documents of the owner of the vehicle (PTS and STS) is observed.
In a conversation with a socialbites.ca correspondent, company representatives admit that such numbers have been in high demand lately.
“This is the most frequently placed order right now. These figures are taken for Europe to protect themselves and their cars in connection with the current situation, that’s all.
We don’t know how much punishment they can get for using them, we are the manufacturer. Gosnomera 24 company told socialbites.ca correspondent, customers say that they were reorganized at the border and went further with them.
A set of numbers with data of a Russian car in this company, depending on the font, is estimated at 2.5-4 thousand rubles. There is a chance to get fines for these figures in the Baltic countries in the European Union, people from the Russian Federation talk about it in one of the special forums. They recommend using alternative license plates only when placing the vehicle in a long parking space.
Moscow company “Running Elephant” offers to make rooms in “Eurostyle” at a price of 2.5 thousand rubles per set. The representative of the company warned the socialbites.ca correspondent that their use could be punished abroad.
“They can be penalized in the EU for using them. Legal numbers made in accordance with GOST are legal, if you put something else, installation and driving are at your discretion,
A company representative warns. “People who buy these numbers say the fines won’t stop them. The important thing is that the car, passengers and children stay intact.”
flag removed
The practice of abandoning the national flag in the GRP on cars in Russia has existed for the past few years – as an extravagant way to stand out on the roads. True, unlike the so-called European plates, such numbers correspond to GOST for plates introduced in 1993. Therefore, those who want to remove three colors from the numbers, therefore, do not have problems with the traffic police. The main thing is that the RUS script must be present.

In the 90s, such numbers were often found on cars of special services, and the legend of the “privilege” of such markings has survived to this day.
In Russia – to the first traffic police stop
However, if new so-called European “russified” license plates are installed for movement around the Russian Federation, then the first traffic police will stop such a car. Experts say that for this, the driver is threatened with a penalty in the form of a large fine or deprivation of license.
“The use of such license plates in Russia is illegal and will be interpreted as deliberate destruction of the license plate, for which 1-3 months of ineligibility or a fine of 5 thousand rubles will be provided.”
Pyotr Shkumatov, coordinator of the Blue Buckets movement, told socialbites.ca, “The fact is that the cameras on the roads are set to recognize a certain font, and there is a suspicion that such numbers will not be read.”
In other states, Russian GOSTs do not work, and foreign traffic police are guided by the Vienna Convention “On Road Traffic” and other international documents, which say that the license plate must correspond only to what is written here, in terms of identity. Documents for the car, the expert explains.
“I think if this information is consistent, police in another state wouldn’t suspect that such plates are homemade, so the risks are minimal.”
Shkumatov emphasizes.
Sergey Radko, a lawyer for the Free Choice auto movement, has a different opinion: a driver will be punished for using GRP, especially in EU countries closer to Russia, and the police know what Russian state signs look like.
“In Russia, such a plate can be considered fake even if the numbers and letters on it match the documents. The penalty for threatening abroad depends on the legislation of the country in which the violation was detected.
And I believe these are going to be pretty big fines,” he said.
Radko told socialbites.ca.
Indirectly, the problems with non-standard numbers on Russian cars abroad are evidenced by the message of the Latvian edition of Delfi; accordingly, at least three fines and 15 administrative cases were launched in Latvia on signals from local residents about suspicious cars. with “possibly fake” Russian numbers.
