After the summer, the remnants of summer trains still splash into the tank and it’s time to think about winter by adding antifreeze. There are now a wide variety of different liquids on the shelves and illegal sellers of eggplant with methanol are getting ready to hit the road.
A reasonable question: is it allowed to mix different washing machines – summer, antifreeze, liquids of different colors and compositions? Will this cause an unwanted chemical reaction? Or, say, is it possible to add an antifreeze containing isopropyl alcohol to a methanol-based liquid?
Expert opinion
Alexey Revinexpert “Behind the wheel”:
– Alcohols are mixed in any proportion without particles precipitating. Water and alcohol soluble dyes and surfactants generally behave in the same way. Yes, and in the car instructions I didn’t have to follow the recommendations of using only one type of fluid or flushing the windshield washer reservoir.
In 35 years of driving, I have encountered no compatibility issues with a variety of windshield washer fluids, from diluted “burnt” vodka in the 1990s to state-of-the-art imported fluids. Sometimes it happened that the walls of the tank were stained with a colored coating of an unstable dye, but it also quickly disappeared.
Therefore, make sure that the tank of your car is always filled with liquid, depending on the season. And in order to better splash it on the glass, it is better to use methanol compounds, which are sold on the side of the road. They do not thicken in the cold, wash the glass perfectly and require only small additions of dyes and surfactants. Well, rumors of their toxicity have been greatly exaggerated. Unless, of course, they are used for their intended purpose and not taken orally.
Conclusion
Mix washing machine at its discretion, there are no contraindications. The only thing is to make sure that the composition of the resulting liquid, as they say, “depends on the weather”.
