46% of respondents were harassed on the road at least once and 43% of drivers had a verbal altercation, a joint survey by Citydrive and the UK research team showed. 41% of respondents said other drivers, angry, showed indecent gestures.
And only a third of the motorists surveyed had suffered deliberate damage to their car (flat tires, scratched paint, etc.).
Psychologist Miroslav Yasin, specialist of the Alter platform, told how to react to the aggression of other drivers.
a. You have to be prepared for rudeness on the road (there are many people on the road, there are also not enough) and try to notice the instigator from afar by driving style. Think about your actions in advance in case the aggressor causes an accident, find the right contacts.
2. If you were rude and left-wing, calmly explain to yourself that everything is over and nothing bad has happened. Breathing deeply and switching attention will help you come to your senses. If possible, park and look at the scenery around you, or sit for a minute with your eyes closed.
Response
The survey also found that 63% of all respondents try to ignore aggressive drivers, the rest are offended and a tenth want to respond to the offender in the same way.
“Don’t argue with the aggressor, not even mentally – this is exactly what he needs: to engage you in a contest of two pride, his and yours, so ‘don’t feed the troll’ – ignore the challenge. The best strategy here is to get away from the conflict if possible,” the expert advises.
Why do they clash?
As a rule, the instigator believes that the driver-victim has behaved incorrectly on the road, for which he must be punished, taught a lesson or “justify”. Bullying can also stem from hooliganism – for some, it’s entertainment with a fair amount of hidden aggression. In any case, the instigator is not focused on the essence of what is happening, but on himself: he is trying to satisfy an internal need, and the situation on the road is just an excuse, notes the expert.
