OSAGO 2022: how to pay less and get more?

In September, for the second time in a year, OSAGO prices changed – they expanded the tariff corridor again, by 26% in both directions. Argument: spare parts have increased in price by 30%, this must be compensated, otherwise insurance becomes unprofitable. Already, based on open data, insurers received a margin of tens of billions of rubles in the first half of the year. It even grew a bit compared to the previous year.

The lower limit of the corridor fell from 2224 to 1646 rubles, while the upper rose from 5980 to 7535 rubles.

Where is cheaper and where is more expensive?

Most insurance companies began to calculate the cost of policies (insurance premium) based on the base rate in the range of 6,000-7,000 rubles. Some, among the little ones, left the previous level (about 5,500 rubles). And others immediately took as a basis up to 7535 rubles. That is, it all depends on where you buy the policy.

Let’s take an example from me. Experience of more than 20 years, minimum bonus-malus coefficient (MBM), territorial coefficient 1,8, policy with a limited number of drivers. I did not change insurance companies for a long time – Ingosstrakh (the base rate at the end of September was 6254 rubles).

Last year, the policy cost 5449 rubles, now they counted 5972 rubles – an increase of 9%. When switching to a cheaper company, there is a chance to remain at the same level, about 5,500 rubles. For example, if you buy a policy from the ‘expensive’ AlfaStrakhovanie, you will receive seven thousand.

But this tuning is only for the most affluent car owners. Other calculation options show an increase of 10-15%. And for taxi drivers and all 20%, in ruble terms, it is 20-30 thousand.

Ultimately, customers with a high BMR (two accidents per year) have a range of offers with a hefty price range – the difference could be ten thousand. Look at the collection sites for the sale of OSAGO policies – there is no need to overpay.

Money or renovation?

If you’re not an auto mechanic, it’s definitely more profitable to take insurance reimbursement with repairs, not cash.

RSA reference books, according to which the fees are calculated, lag behind the real prices. The company will almost certainly count a little less than it actually is. And spare parts have not increased in price by 30% this year, as they believe in the PCA: by today’s estimates by 35-65%, depending on the brand. Most likely, the payment will not be enough for a full-fledged repair, especially if you use original parts (they charge something “arithmetic mean” between original and analog).

So the repair is more reliable. And if it is done poorly, it is possible to solve the problem even without going to court.

OSAGO in installments – is it profitable?

Many companies started offering a policy “for half the price” – with subsequent surcharges in installments. Variations on the theme: For example, AlfaStrakhovanie asks for a 25% deposit. The cost is the same as the “whole” policy when paid immediately.

There is only one advantage: under limited financial circumstances, not paying the full amount, while the insurance is still full and works from day one. Disadvantages: in the event of a delay, the payments are recalculated against increasing coefficients or the contract is terminated.

What happens if you don’t pay?

According to the PCA, about 6 million Russian drivers do not buy a policy – this number has been stable for several years and in recent months the number of “refuseniks” is even increasing.

Risks? In general, there are only two: occasionally pay a fine for driving without OSAGO (800 rubles), and in the event of an accident, pay for the damage out of your own pocket – if you are the culprit.

But if everyone stops buying policies, the system will collapse completely. And to claim compensation from the perpetrator of the accident in court is still bureaucracy.
