The bill, which provides for a 50% discount on customs duties when importing cars to Russia from other countries by large families and war veterans, has been rejected by the cabinet. The cabinet did not like the financial gap in the budget that arises when granting a discount.
“The proposed changes relate to the provision of benefits for the payment of customs duties, which will lead to deficits in federal budget revenue, the source of compensation for which [в законопроекте] undefined,” Izvestia quotes the text of the government’s conclusion.
The cabinet also asks how the new law will help reduce the shortage of new cars on the market and thus reduce social tensions.
The developers of the bill, in particular the head of the Just Russia – For Truth faction Sergei Mironov, plan to finalize the document and return it for consideration.
“Our initiative is aimed at supporting socially unprotected sections of the population: families with many children and war veterans. Today, our auto industry cannot provide the right number of cars to saturate the domestic market. We propose to supply the Russians with cars until the domestic car industry organizes the production of the number of cars that are enough for our citizens. Ultimately, the goal of our proposal is to reduce the cost of cars,” said Sergey Mironov.
Meanwhile, the shortage of new cars in the Russian market in 2022, according to the vice president of the National Automobile Union Anton Shaparin, will be 500-600 thousand cars.
