Question from the forum “Behind the wheel” (we answer them periodically):
– Is a lightweight battery with fewer plates so bad? Few people need limiting parameters, but the price is lower!
– If such a battery is sold to you at half price and the parameters suit you, then there is no problem. Suppose, when a car is being prepared for sale, any battery is sufficient.
Another situation is pure summer use: a low-capacity battery will try to perform its tasks for the first time. However with the approach of cold weather and an increase in the required power, problems will begin.
Manufacturers of batteries sold at dump prices do not add expensive lead. If in normal batteries after cutting we found 12 plates in each cell, then in lightweight – one and a half times less!
Using a battery with a small number of plates will lead to an increase in the current density on their surface, and this reduces its source.
Finally, the cold scroll power needed by the car, a weak battery just won’t give up.
If the car developers prescribe the use of a 60 Ah battery, then no 40 Ah batteries are suitable for replacement. More – please, less – no.
And most importantly, they usually try to sell you a battery with reduced capacity as normal, and this is pure fraud.
