Hyundai Getz (2002-2010) is a simple and affordable compact hatchback with three or five doors. It was delivered to Russia from South Korea, 90% of the cars – with five doors.
With the restyling (2006), ABS, power steering, air conditioning, a switchable passenger airbag appeared in the standard equipment.

Gasoline aspirated with cast iron blocks and divided injection, all under the AI-92. Some engines are descended from Mitsubishi units from the 1990s.
Jr 1.1 (66 hp) produced in two versions (G4HD, after restyling G4HG). Three cylinders, high tendency to overheat (the head of the block is affected immediately), floating speed. Serves up to 250 thousand km – and there are repair dimensions. Compatible with MCP only.
Engine 1.3 (G4EH, 85 HP) – already in-line “four”. After restyling, it was replaced 1.4 (G4EE, 97 HP) and became the most popular. Top 1.6 (G4ED, 105 HP) fell out of the range a few years before the end of sales.
The general advantages of these three engines are: they are unpretentious in terms of fuel quality, there are hydraulic gap compensators, oil spillage becomes noticeable no earlier than 150,000 km. All engines are “plug-in”, you have to follow the timing belt. The oil pump resource is small, the nozzles, throttle and idle speed controller are clogged. The source of ignition coils is unstable, gaskets and seals are leaking. Hard starting and loss of traction are often associated with debris in the fuel filter. The resource is at least 250 thousand, and engines 1.4 and 1.6 are capable of 350. Lots of spare parts.
Diesel 1.5 came to us unofficially, you should not strive for it: it is extremely capricious, and with 200 thousand km the cylinder head often cracks.
Transfer
5-speed manual transmission two types in the early years let down the quality of the components – the replacement of the bearings of the primary and secondary shafts was sometimes necessary up to 100 thousand km. After that, the situation improved. The clutch assembly often lives up to 200 thousand km (except for the release bearing).
Four-speed automatic A4AF3/A4BF2 made on the basis of the Mitsubishi F4A21 box – also for 2.0 engines with much more torque, so the margin of safety on Goetz is reasonable. Before restyling, he suffered from various childhood diseases, after that they were mostly cured. It turned out well: disorders are mainly age-related and are related to the natural wear and tear of bushings and friction clutches. It is easy to repair, with careful operation, go more than 300 thousand km.
operational ulcers
The suspension is surprisingly firm and needs no attention on normal roads up to 100,000 km. On bad roads, silent blocks and rear shocks are the first to give up.
The source of the steering rack and power steering is also surprising: how did you manage to last 150-200 thousand km?
- The EUR was problematic on cars with a 1.6 engine until 2005.
- Brake pads and discs wear out quickly – sometimes by 20-30 thousand it is necessary to replace the set.
- The calipers acidify just as quickly.
- Rust settles willingly from the bottom, and on the fifth door, other parts of the body hold up better.
- The fuel tank rots from the inside in 10-12 years, after which the filter becomes clogged with rust.
