Skoda unveils 2023 plans with refreshed crossovers and timelines for electric models
In its global sales report for 2022, Skoda outlined plans for 2023 that captured attention across markets in North America and beyond. The second half of 2023 is set to see a new generation of crossovers, led by the Skoda Kodiaq, along with a redesigned Superb in its latest generation. These moves signal Skoda’s push to refresh its lineup while leveraging the broader strategy of the Volkswagen Group.
Alongside the Kodiaq and Superb, two widely loved models will receive updates. The Kamiq compact crossover and the Scala city car are both getting refreshed to align with evolving consumer tastes and safety expectations. The brand also hinted at additional projects for the year, with three fully electric models planned to join the lineup by 2026, underscoring Skoda’s commitment to electrification within its broader resource and technology framework.
The Superb enters a new era as the fourth-generation model, and in states of historical count this would be the fifth if older variations from the 1930s and 1940s were included. It will be offered in liftback and station wagon configurations. Like the contemporary VW Passat, the Superb is built on the MQB platform and is produced in a Bratislava, Slovakia facility. An important note for wagon enthusiasts: the Passat will be produced exclusively as a station wagon in this context.
The arrival of the next-generation Kodiaq also raises anticipation for the upcoming Tiguan, as the new Tiguan is expected to arrive after the Kodiaq’s debut. The current Tiguan has been spotted undergoing road tests multiple times, fueling public curiosity about the evolution of this compact SUV family.
Across these models, customers can expect upgraded engines within a framework that the VW Group is refining. Despite the push toward efficiency and comfort, the current plan indicates that none of these new variants will include an all-electric option at launch, though the broader roadmap remains focused on electrified options in the near future.
