In 2013, Mercedes-Benz unveiled a limited run of the G 63 6×6. Only a bit over a hundred units were produced, and since then a number of tuning houses, including Hennessey, have continued to introduce six‑wheel off‑road vehicles to the market.
Now Great Wall Motors has stepped into the niche, having already road-tested a prototype. To fit a third axle, the company lengthened the pickup’s body and raised ground clearance. The prototype lacks front and rear wheel arches for now, not because they will never be added, but because they have not yet been manufactured.
Car News China has published an image of a six-wheeled Shanhai Cannon 6×6 from a Great Wall Motors presentation. The shot emphasizes dark fenders and a black sport roll bar behind the cab, underscoring the model’s aggressive styling.
The six‑wheeled Shanhai Cannon is expected to share the same 3.0‑litre V6 turbocharged engine as the standard model, delivering about 360 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque. A nine‑speed automatic transmission will channel power to all six wheels, enabling robust off‑road capability. Great Wall originally planned a May 2021 launch for the Shanhai Cannon 6×6, but the COVID‑19 pandemic disrupted those plans. The vehicle is anticipated to reach showrooms in the second half of 2023.
