Between March 2022 and March 2023, Russian taxi fares rose by about 20 percent. On average during this period, residents of the Russian Federation spent roughly 14,400 rubles on taxi services, compared with about 12,000 rubles a year earlier. These figures come from a study conducted by GTK-Holding, a research-backed investment logistics firm.

Zaliev, founder of GTK-Holding, notes that when ordering a taxi, around 44 percent of Russians favor economy class, 36 percent choose comfort, 12 percent opt for business, and 8 percent fall into other categories. This distribution reflects consumer priorities in the evolving taxi market during the study window.

Looking at annual spending bands, about 25 percent of citizens allocate 1 to 3 thousand rubles, 22 percent spend 3 to 5 thousand rubles, 21 percent dedicate 5 to 10 thousand rubles, 23 percent allocate 10 to 15 thousand rubles, and 9 percent exceed 15 thousand rubles per year on taxi services. These bands illustrate a broad spectrum of use patterns across different income groups and travel needs.

The study also reports an average taxi ride cost of roughly 550 to 580 rubles, with typical trip durations not exceeding 10 to 12 minutes. This snapshot helps frame the daily financial impact of taxi use on ordinary households and short-range urban commuting alike.

Earlier statements from GTK-Holding indicated that the Ministry of Transport has proposed a mechanism to phase out long-hour shifts for taxi drivers, replacing manual collectors with a more regulated framework. The aim is to curb excessive working hours while maintaining service availability for riders, a shift observed in several recent transport policy discussions and planning efforts. This context helps explain some of the pricing dynamics and service expectations reported in the GTK-Holding study. Attribution: GTK-Holding data and analysis.
