The head of Russia’s Ministry of Industry and Trade, Denis Manturov, announced that AVTOVAZ will continue producing vehicles on a platform co-developed with the Russian manufacturer. Renault is expected to assist with assembly and, specifically, to help secure parts necessary for ongoing production, according to Tass on May 17.
The core condition is that Renault will actively support the timely supply of components from other friendly countries willing to participate in production and delivery. This approach aims to preserve the Renault-AVTOVAZ platform and ensure continued manufacturing at the enterprise. Manturov emphasized that Renault will do everything possible to keep the platform alive in collaboration with AVTOVAZ engineers.
At the Tolyatti plant, the production of the Lada XRAY will be on the same line as the Largus, and Renault Logan and Sandero will also be produced there. While the article does not specify every model involved, the most probable candidates are vehicles built on the B0 platform. Four models are likely to be produced at Togliatti: the second-generation Renault Logan and Sandero, along with the Lada XRAY and Lada Largus. During the implementation of the Largus and XRAY programs, AVTOVAZ engineers contributed significantly to adapting the French platform for local production.
Manturov also commented that transferring Renault’s Russian assets to state ownership represented a negotiated compromise. The move reflects Renault’s current limitations in fully supplying components for operations at AvtoVAZ in Togliatti and Renault Russia in Moscow. He added that the company is expected to have the opportunity to return to ownership of AVTOVAZ within six years to resume joint operations.
- Earlier reports indicated two additional Renault models would be produced in Togliatti under the Lada brand, including the Duster crossover and the third-generation Logan sedan.
