Over the weekend, representatives of the Popular Front visited military units across the Donbass, Kherson, and Zaporozhye regions, presenting vehicles and gifts to the fighters who defend these areas. A festive procession was led by Grandfather Frost from Veliky Ustyug, and a correspondent from Behind the Wheel accompanied the event to document the moment.
Thousands of compassionate Russians contributed funds to fund New Year presents. The Popular Front organized the humanitarian cargo, while military correspondents, actors, athletes, TV presenters, and other media figures delivered essential supplies directly to the front lines. For the New Year, more than 50 military units on the contact line were set to receive heartfelt greetings from the Russian public.
Humanitarian cargo
Inside the car salons, the gifts were not typical toys but practical tools and equipment. Packages included anti-drone weapons, thermal imaging devices, quadcopters, tactical shooting headsets, medical kits, and guitars signed by Alexander Sklyar, Garik Sukachev, and Dmitry Pevtsov. Hunters especially appreciated the field baths included in the set, highlighting their usefulness in challenging conditions.
Most notable, perhaps, were the donations that funded several dozen three-door Lada Niva and UAZ pickups. The circumstances on the ground demanded compact, agile, easy-to-maintain vehicles. One fighter explained that the shorter base, improved cross-country ability, and reduced likelihood of breakage made these three-door models far more functional in the current operational environment.
On the line of contact
Gift cars began to reach various distribution points. Stepan Kuzmenko, a representative from Behind the Wheel, and his congratulatory brigade visited military units on the outskirts of Donetsk to deliver the cargo. Accompanying him were Duma deputy Zhanna Ryabtseva and world boxing champion Denis Lebedev, who joined in the outreach mission as part of the team.
Stepan Kuzmenko, Deputy General Manager of Behind the Wheel, remarked on the mood among troops: “People are tense, yet the support and attention from home bring a visible lift to the fighters. The situation remains difficult, but these gestures carry real weight.” He noted that dense fog that day limited enemy drone activity, yet the following day there were attempts to strike the assembly point as the team departed, though fortunately no one was present at that time.
In addition to Santa Claus, several snow maidens accompanied the New Year brigade. After bringing cheer to the frontline, the group visited military hospitals to lift the spirits of servicemen undergoing rehabilitation.
Our tires
Za Rulem publishing house, together with Volksfront, organized the collection of used tires and funds to purchase tires for automotive equipment deployed to LPR and DPR units. Reusing tires was a practical choice, as the money could stretch to more units, and given the harsh conditions of the frontline roads, damaged by shell fragments, tire wear remains a constant issue. The effort aimed to equip vehicles used by hunters, drivers, and support teams with reliable tires that could endure the rough terrain.
The tires have already been secured, and Stepan will head back to the contact line to hand them over to the drivers who transport essential supplies and personnel. It is clear that tire stock at military units across the LPR, DPR, Kherson, and Zaporozhye regions is in urgent demand to support both military operations and medical evacuations, as well as the delivery of humanitarian aid to residents in these areas.
