In April, the Ukrainian car market saw a drastic drop in new car sales, slipping by 87 percent. Dealers reported selling 1,242 units, a figure provided by Autoconsulting that highlights the severity of the downturn.

For the first four months of 2022, Ukrainian dealers moved 12,905 new cars, which marks a 58.4 percent decline from the same period a year earlier. Renault led the market with buyers favoring its models in 16 percent of transactions, followed by Toyota at 12.7 percent and Volkswagen at 8 percent in April. These numbers illustrate a shifting landscape in consumer preference amid ongoing economic and logistical pressures.

April also saw a modest rise in demand for certain exotic Chinese brands that are sold by unofficial networks. At the same time, electric vehicles experienced notable interest, signaling a growing segment within the new car market that is sensitive to policy changes, subsidies, and charging infrastructure.

Earlier reports noted a stoppage in automobile production within the country. Factories that previously produced about 1,000 vehicles per month faced shutdowns or were repurposed for other activities, reflecting broader disruptions in manufacturing and supply chains that have affected the industry as a whole.
