Overtaking and Snowy Roads: Safety First

Winter driving presents unique challenges. A snow-covered track is not the ideal place for maneuvering, especially when it comes to overtaking. Once a driver commits to the lane or crosses into a marked area, it is essential to follow the traffic signs and signals. But snow can obscure lines and signage, making the decision even trickier. In such conditions, overtaking should be limited to flat and highly visible stretches of road where both the vehicle and oncoming traffic are clearly seen.

If a driver attempts to overtake in a zone where it is prohibited and is stopped by a traffic police inspector, the driver must be prepared to present evidence to support their case. The enforcement relies on proving guilt, and the onus may shift if visibility is compromised by snow, making it harder to demonstrate a violation.

Under Part 1 of Article 1.5 of the Code of Administrative Offenses, a person can be held liable only if fault is established. When a sign is obscured or road markings are illegible, proving the violation becomes more difficult. Regardless, drivers are advised to err on the side of caution and refrain from overtaking during adverse road conditions, prioritizing safety over speed.

Campaign for Tyres: 7,000 Tires for Safer Roads

With winter weather increasing the need for reliable traction, the issue of tire quality becomes a matter of public safety. Without proper tires, road order can be disrupted, and the ability to provide timely medical care to those in need may be compromised. The initiative highlights tire shortages and the role of tire maintenance in protecting vulnerable road users and essential services.

In cooperation with community organizations, a fundraising effort has been launched to purchase tires for the vehicles of the People’s Police and other emergency services, including ambulances, fire and rescue teams, humanitarian aid delivery vehicles, and military equipment used in critical operations. Contributions can be made through the designated collection page to support these essential fleet upgrades.
