The Russian automobile plant Moskvich is steering its future toward electric mobility, with official statements signaling that electric vehicles will stand at the core of its product lineup over time.

In parallel with its existing manufacturing processes, the company notes it is laying the groundwork to produce its own electric vehicle, aiming for the new model to become the centerpiece of the factory. The announcement also highlights Moscow’s ambition to grow into Russia’s premier hub for electric vehicle production, signaling a significant shift in the country’s automotive landscape.

Earlier reports confirmed that the Moskvich 6 liftback has begun arriving at Russian dealer networks. The model carries a starting price of 2.63 million rubles in Russia before any discounts related to trade-ins or promotions. Under the hood, the Moskvich 6 is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine delivering 136 horsepower and a peak torque of 200 Nm, paired with a continuously variable transmission for a smooth driving experience.

Standard equipment in the entry-level Comfort version includes 17-inch alloy wheels, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, parking sensors, air conditioning, cruise control, keyless entry, and LED lighting. Each headlight assembly is designed with 142 LEDs arranged across 5 lenses to improve illumination and visibility on the road.

Earlier disclosures also noted that the Moskvich plant has begun independent welding of car bodies, marking another step in the modernization of its production capabilities and signaling a broader push toward streamlined, autonomous manufacturing processes that support both gasoline and upcoming electric models. The overall plan emphasizes increased domestic production, enhanced supply chain resilience, and a clearer path to electrification for the brand in the near term, followed by broader portfolio enhancements as technology and demand evolve, with stakeholders keeping a close eye on market reception and regulatory developments in Russia and beyond.
