A fresh electric vehicle was observed at the KAMAZ manufacturing site, suggesting an impending Moskvich-branded prototype emerging from the revival of the historic brand. Reporters from RCI News, shared via Telegram, noted the vehicle beside the main KAMAZ-54901 tractor. The photographed car appears to be a JAC Sehol E40X variant wearing altered decals, indicating that the new Moskvich line will share a strong kinship with JAC models.
Official plans describe a four-model lineup slated to roll out over the first few years. The debut will be the S4 crossover, offered in both electric and petrol configurations. The electric S4 aligns with the Sehol E40X, boasting an estimated range of about 420 kilometers per charge and a 150 horsepower electric motor. This positioning signals a practical, city-friendly EV with respectable endurance for daily use and light highway trips.
Viewed in sequence on a strategic slide, the electric variant is set to lead the production phase. Following it will be a redesigned S4 powered by internal combustion, then the Sehol X6 (Model II), the S7 (Model IV), and the Sehol A5 Liftback (Model III). Production on Kamaz’s own platform is projected to begin later, with preliminary indicators pointing to 2024 as the starting point for vehicle manufacture on that dedicated architecture.
The Moskvich production venture is anchored in the facilities of the former Renault Russia plant, now repurposed as the Moscow Automobile Plant Moskvich. In this collaboration, KAMAZ acts as a technological partner, maintaining a bridge to JAC, which has previous ties to KAMAZ through the Compass family. By year’s end, the goal is to deliver the first 600 Moskvitches, with a broader target of 50,000 units for 2023 and an ambitious 100,000 units for 2024, reflecting a steady scale-up in local automotive manufacturing capabilities.
- Moscow and PJSC KAMAZ plan to invest about 5 billion rubles to develop the Moskvich facility and expand EV production capabilities.
