Localization in auto manufacturing remains clearly visible in U.S. and Canadian content levels
The United States continues to keep a close watch on how much of the production happens within its borders and in Canada. In 2022, the vehicle with the highest share of components sourced from the U.S. and Canada was the Lincoln Corsair, scoring 86 points. This score translates to 72 percent of the car’s units, assemblies, and parts being produced in North America. These figures come from the annual Made in America Auto Index, compiled by the Kogod School of Business at American University.
Last year’s top model, the Ford Mustang GT with a manual gearbox, dropped to 22nd place, earning a 50 percent localization rate after a Mexican-built transmission was introduced. However, 22nd place this year sits above the positions occupied by models from Kia, Mercedes-Benz, and Lexus, such as the Sorento, GLE, and ES respectively.
A total of 25 cars earned spots in the Top 10.
