In December 2024, serial production of the Lada Niva Sport SUV is set to begin, according to remarks made in an interview with the Tolyatti 24 TV channel and confirmed by Maxim Sokolov, the president of AvtoVAZ.
Speaking about the launch, Sokolov stated that the classic version of the Niva Sport will be produced by Lada Sport, the brand’s performance division, for car enthusiasts across the country starting in December of this year. He emphasized that the new sports model will join the lineup in the same manner as AvtoVAZ’s celebrated sports vehicles, marking a dedicated entry into the market for fans of spirited driving experiences.
Looking ahead, the AvtoVAZ leadership indicated that a new 1.8-liter engine would be introduced to the Niva Legend and Niva Travel models beginning in 2025, signaling a broader powertrain strategy for the brand’s Niva family.
The Niva Sport variant distinguishes itself from the standard SUV through several targeted enhancements. Its seating is redesigned with original front seats, and the vehicle is equipped with a reinforced 122 horsepower engine. Additional upgrades include front and rear disc brakes, a strengthened rear axle, and a body that has been adapted to accommodate the new powertrain and performance characteristics.
There is an additional note that the company has previously been associated with starting a used car trade under the AvtoVAZ banner, underscoring a broader push to diversify offerings and extend the lifespan of its vehicle lineup beyond new models.
