A recall campaign has been initiated in Russia affecting Kia Rio cars due to issues with the airbag control module. Rosstandart reported that a total of 105,400 vehicles are included in the recall. The campaign aims to address safety concerns linked to the vehicle’s SRS system and to prevent potential airbag non-deployment or unintended inflation scenarios that could endanger occupants.

The stated reason for the recall is a malfunction indicator on the instrument cluster that can illuminate the SRS warning lamp. In some units, the airbag module may experience an internal fault. As part of the remedy, the software in the airbag module will be updated, and the hardware will be replaced if necessary to restore proper operation.

The campaign covers Kia Rio models manufactured from 2013 through 2018. A list of the affected VINs is published on the Rosstandart website for verification. Owners can confirm eligibility by checking this VIN list. Official Kia dealers will reach out to owners to schedule repairs as needed. In addition, drivers can visit authorized service centers for a free inspection and repair without waiting for a separate notification. The Kia Rio vehicles in the Russian market within the stated years were produced at the Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Russia plant in Saint Petersburg.

A separate regional safety concern was noted earlier, with a report of a fire in the Rostov region attributed to a faulty gas cylinder. This incident underscores the importance of timely recalls and routine vehicle safety checks to prevent dangerous failures on the road.
