The Kaliningrad Avtotor plant aims to boost its production line to fourteen car models within the current year, according to a statement cited by TASS via the company’s press service.
At present, Avtotor collaborates with three Chinese automakers—BAIC, Kaiyi, and SWM—and has already launched the production of six distinct models. The enterprise is actively pursuing deeper localization, with plans to manufacture a broad range of components for the Chinese-built vehicles within the Russian Federation. This includes batteries, windows, wiring harnesses, bumpers, various plastic parts, wheels and tires, seating, exhaust systems, software, and emergency-call systems, all to be produced domestically rather than imported.
Looking ahead, the company envisions establishing additional Avtotor facilities in Kaliningrad dedicated to automotive component production, a strategic move supported by a special investment contract tied to electric vehicle manufacturing with the Ministry of Industry and Trade. The envisioned output encompasses ferrous and non-ferrous blanks such as cast iron, steel, aluminum, and related materials used for body components, as well as coupling and turning mechanisms, oversized exterior parts (bumpers, sills, fenders, engine-compartment protections) and smaller interior elements. This expansion aligns with broader industrial goals in Russia to build a more self-reliant EV ecosystem and to integrate more deeply into the regional supply chain, reflecting a shift toward higher local content in the production of vehicles destined for both domestic and regional markets.
Earlier reports noted that SWM disclosed the configuration details of its G01 and G01F crossover models intended for the Russian market, signaling ongoing product adaptation to local demand and regulatory conditions. This interplay of model diversification, supplier collaboration, and localized manufacturing underlines Avtotor’s role in accelerating the domestic automotive manufacturing landscape and its potential to influence regional export opportunities as production scales and supplier networks mature.
