Production of Chinese Jetour vehicles in Russia is slated to commence in March 2024, according to Izvestia, which cites Jetour’s general manager for international markets, Jack Chen. The announcement signals a new phase for the brand as it expands beyond its Chinese market footprint into the Russian automotive landscape.
Industry insiders expect most Jetour models to come equipped with all-wheel drive and to include body-on-frame SUVs, pickups, and hybrid configurations. The company has not yet disclosed the specific factory where assembly will begin, leaving room for a staged rollout and potential regional production strategies to optimize local demand and supply chains.
Jetour, a brand established in 2018, positions its lineup as suitable for family travel and everyday practicality. In Russia, consumers can expect to see the Dashing, X70 Plus, and X90 Plus crossovers, with the upcoming Jetour T2 model poised for a market debut in the near term.
In a related trend, data from February 2024 shows that the Haval Jolion, a Chinese crossover, topped Russia’s sales chart for that month with about 5,000 units sold—roughly 2.2 times higher than the prior year. This illustrates a continuing appetite for domestically produced or Chinese-branded crossovers in the region, alongside a competitive mix of other brands.
Geely’s Monjaro followed as the second-best seller in February, while the Lada Niva Travel stood in third place and the Niva Legend in fourth. Completing the top five was the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Max, underscoring a diverse demand spectrum across compact and compact-crossover segments in the market.
Earlier reports indicated that the Skoda Octavia and Kia Rio captured the most popular-car status in Russia for 2023, highlighting a diverse and competitive national market where both Western and Chinese brands vie for consumer attention and dealership presence.
