This year, the most stolen vehicles in North America for some insurers have been Hyundai and Kia. In a joint analysis by RESO-Garantiya and Soglasie, these brands topped the anti-theft rankings, accounting for a notable share of incidents at 17.6 percent.

Among the models most often targeted, the following were highlighted:

  • Hyundai Tucson
  • Hyundai Santa Fe
  • Kia Sorento
  • Kia Rio

Close behind, the Lada Granta and Mitsubishi Outlander were each responsible for about 8 percent of thefts in the same period.

Lower on the list were popular Toyota models, such as the Camry and the Land Cruiser, each contributing roughly 4 percent.

Less frequently stolen are several models including Honda CR-V, Infiniti M35, Infiniti QX80, Mercedes-Benz E 200, and Lexus LX 570.

Color trends in thefts have shifted. White vehicles have become more frequently targeted, representing the majority of incidents at 61 percent, while black cars accounted for about 13 percent.

In terms of physical components, thieves have focused on specific parts: side mirrors and headlights, especially on premium models; spare wheels tucked under the vehicle; the wheels themselves; and catalytic converters from certain Korean-brand vehicles. While the overall theft numbers have not surged in these areas, insurers note continued attention to these parts.

For more context, experts emphasize that anti-theft dynamics vary by market and insurance trends, and drivers should stay informed about model-specific vulnerabilities and security upgrades offered by manufacturers.
