The cost of domestic and Chinese-made summer tires in Russia could rise by about 10% as the market gears up for the new tire season. This assessment comes from Tatiana Arabadzhi, head of the National Agency for Industrial Information, who shared the view with the Parliamentary Newspaper.
Generally, predicting price movements in the current climate is challenging. Yet, if today’s trends and exchange rates persist, the agency expects that summer tire prices may not exceed a 10% increase at the start of the season. The prediction also suggests that any spike would be short-lived, fading as the season gains momentum and consumer demand stabilizes.
Contrasting this outlook, Jan Heitzer, vice president of the National Drivers’ Association, does not foresee a sharp, sudden rise in tire prices at the season’s outset. He argues that adjustments in domestic tire costs would mainly occur if there is a need for additional raw materials. He also notes that prices in the Chinese market are closely tied to the exchange rate, and significant changes would require a notable shift in currency values.
Earlier remarks attributed to Ilya Ivansky, who leads the service department at a major automotive market, emphasized practical considerations when selecting summer tires. He advised buyers to start with the tire size recommended in the vehicle’s owner manual to ensure proper fit and performance.
As for when to swap from winter to summer tires, industry voices have indicated that drivers should plan ahead, balancing road conditions, temperature patterns, and the onset of more consistent warm weather. The decision hinges on local climate cues and the consumer demand cycle as retailers stock up for the season.
