At the close of 2023, the Chinese automaker BAIC announced plans to bring two new crossovers to the Russian market, the X55 and X75. The information emerged during a BAIC press conference held at the MIMS Moscow exhibition, signaling the brand’s intent to expand its lineup in the region.
The X55 measures 4620 mm in length with a wheelbase of 2735 mm. It is powered by a 1.5-liter gasoline turbo engine delivering 188 horsepower, paired with a seven-speed robotic transmission. Performance data shows an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.8 seconds. The X55 comes well equipped with a surround-view camera system, six airbags, and adaptive cruise control. Additional conveniences include an electric tailgate with memory and a hands-free opening function, dual-zone climate control, and a cooled storage box integrated into the center armrest, enhancing comfort and practicality for daily use and longer trips alike.
The second model, the BAIC X75 crossover, uses the same engine and transmission as the X55. It differentiates itself with a longer body by 100 mm and a wheelbase that is 65 mm longer, providing increased interior space and potentially a more comfortable ride for rear passengers. As of the press briefing, BAIC did not disclose pricing for either model.
Meanwhile, other industry notes have surfaced, including reports that the Iranian automobile brand SAIPA plans to begin production of the Shahin and P90 sedans in Russia, reflecting a broader trend of regional automakers expanding manufacturing activity in the market.
