AvtoVAZ Readies Lada Largus Reintroduction and Production Expansion

AvtoVAZ has signaled a return to producing the Lada Largus commercial model at its Togliatti plant, with a restart anticipated in September 2023. The Largus line faced multiple idling phases since April due to a persistent parts shortage, but manufacturing resumed in July, delivering 1.8 thousand units assembled from materials accumulated during the stoppage.

Executives indicate a broader manufacturing strategy that will unfold over the coming year. The company intends to widen its car output along two pathways: continuing Vesta models while also restoring traditional LCV lines, including the Largus, from September of the following year. In addition, AvtoVAZ is exploring the development of new models, including the potential launch of a domestically produced electric vehicle for future use. These plans were outlined by Maxim Sokolov, the company president, who emphasized a renewed commitment to both established names and new propulsion technologies.

Previously, AvtoVAZ had announced intentions to restart Largus production before the end of 2022, but schedules shifted and the timetable was adjusted past that date. The latest roadmap keeps the Largus program in scope while balancing supply chain realities and capacity considerations at the Togliatti facility.

Requires 7,000 Tires in Popular Sizes

The ongoing tire drive underscores a broader effort to support essential public services. Without equipped vehicles, public order could falter, and timely medical response might be compromised. In collaboration with the Popular Front, the project has begun raising funds to purchase tires for multiple critical fleets, including the People’s Police and operational services of the LPR and DPR, ambulances, emergency response units, humanitarian aid transports to Donbass residents, and military logistics equipment. Contributions can be made through the fundraising page coordinated by the group, with all funds directed toward tire procurement and related mobility needs for these services.
