In its recommendations to the French Electricity Transmission System Operator (RTE), it proposes to shut down charging stations for electric vehicles. Cargo operators are in a panic.
France is preparing for a very difficult time due to gas supply problems. RTE has figured out how to save valuable electricity by switching off charging stations for electric vehicles from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm and from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. These are periods of high demand for electricity. Fast charging stations, which are only used during the day, consume as much energy on arrival at work as is enough for several apartments.
Charging station operators don’t seem to mind, but offer alternative solutions.
“All our terminals are controlled remotely. Our fastest units deliver a power of up to 300 kW. We could limit this power to 100 or even 50 kW,” said Mathieu Disham, CEO of Power Dot. “We could set a bonus-malus depending on when you consume. You pay more when the grid is overloaded and less when demand is low.”
Nearly 70,000 public charging stations are operating across France, which have been installed to boost demand for electric vehicles and reduce their environmental footprint. In other words, for the sake of the environment.
Meanwhile, in France, there are several nuclear power plants that have risen at the wrong time for repair.
