Such a forecast is made in the Russian Union of Auto Insurers.
In March, there were just over 1.5 thousand accredited maintenance points, according to the executive director of the RSA Sergey Efremov, to whom the WG refers. Now there are almost 3.4 thousand. By the end of the year, their numbers will triple compared to March.
Compared to last year, there are still fewer maintenance operators today than before the introduction of new requirements for the inspection points themselves. Then there were about five thousand.
Then, after the introduction of optional MOT for personal vehicles, many operators rushed out of the market – MOT became unprofitable for them.
Now, from January 1, 2023, technical inspection services will increase in price. For MOT it is no longer possible to take less than 913 rubles. As a result, the technical inspection will increase in price approximately twice and this price will be indexed annually. With these rates, the MOT becomes a profitable business again, even if passenger cars do not have to undergo an MOT.
But there are exceptions. MOT of personal vehicles must be performed before being registered with the traffic police, if the age of this vehicle is more than 4 years. Maintenance is also required when making changes to the vehicle’s design and when driving abroad. In addition, car owners can voluntarily undergo a technical inspection.
