Fusion – a cross between a microvan and a five-door hatchback – evolved from the “fifth” Fiesta.

engines
Aspirated Duratec 1.4 (80 hp) and 1.6 (101 hp) are known for being very reliable. In 2004 they were upgraded to Euro 4 – in particular the cable drive was replaced by an electronic accelerator pedal.
They are officially allowed AI-92, but low-quality gasoline contaminates candles very quickly and can damage the fuel pump. AI-95 is still preferred.
The timing belt, as a rule, does not withstand the 150 thousand km promised by the factory. To avoid “sticking”, they recommend replacing in the region of 80-100 thousand km. The ignition coils fail, the generator and water pump resource leaves a lot to be desired, sometimes the intake manifold plastic tears.
For 1.6, the so-called “double start” was noted – starting from the second attempt, manifested more often in the wet off-season. Causes are not identified, a serious problem is not considered. It is advisable to change the air filter more often – due to its design features, dust can get into the engine.
Source 1.6 – more than 350 thousand km, 1.4 – about 300 thousand, and the car with it, frankly, has no dynamics. Both transmit the transition to gas poorly, to the point of mechanical destruction.
There is also a diesel Duratorq 1.4 (68 hp). Damned frugal, but unsuccessful and too demanding. The fuel system is extremely erratic, after 100 thousand km oil consumption increases, the resource of the turbocharger is small, and the engine itself can withstand only 250 thousand km.
Transfer
The mechanical box iB5 is the same as in the Fiestas and Focuses with engines up to 1.8 liters. There are no questions for her, with careful handling it will serve up to 400,000 km.
From this, Ford made the Durashift EST robot for the 1.4 engine, attaching actuators with a different clutch assembly. It suffers from jerky work, sometimes from 20-30 thousand km. Quickly destroys the clutch (60 thousand – the limit), buggy brain, overheating in traffic jams. Theoretically capable of up to 250 thousand km, but few agree to test such theories for themselves.
A classic automatic works together with 1.6 – Aisin AW80-41, also known from Corollas and Yaris. An archaic four-stage unit, very resistant. With good service, any ailments begin no earlier than 150 thousand km, and he runs about 300 thousand.
operational ulcers
- In the suspension, only the rear shock absorbers are considered weak points, sometimes up to 60 thousand km. The front ones last much longer.
- The power steering pump lives a little – 60-80 thousand km, and the whole system often leaks with the same mileage. The wheelhouse is quite tenacious.
- Since there are no cars under 10 years old, the consequences of age-related acidification of wiring and contacts are unavoidable. There are complaints about the electricity in general. Too often the dipped and brake lights are on, the rear lock drives and the windshield wipers fail.
- Moisture can leak into the cab in wet weather. In terms of corrosion, the back door is the weakest.
