Suzuki Motor has unveiled a new compact crossover, the Grand Vitara. Recall that this double name is no longer used since 2019, when the Japanese company stopped producing the SUV of the JT generation.
India will be the first country to launch production and sales of the revived Grand Vitara. Therefore, the world premiere of the model took place in this South Asian country.

The new Grand Vitara is not made from scratch – it is based on a thoroughly redesigned design of the Vitara compact crossover of the LY generation, which is officially sold in Russia and is well known here. With Vitara, the novelty unites the Global C platform and part of the supporting body frame, while all the external panels are different and form a more modern exterior. Suzuki’s fenders, doors and roof are shared with the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder platform crossover unveiled in early July, but the headlights, taillights and bumper groups for each model are original.
The size of the revived Suzuki Grand Vitara is similar to the Hyundai Creta: length is 4345 mm, width – 1795 mm, height – 1645 mm, wheelbase – 2600 mm. Compared to the Vitara LY, the novelty is 170 mm longer and has increased the distance between the axles of the wheels by 100 mm.
In the basic configuration, the model is planned to be equipped with a mild-hybrid powerplant, in which the 1.5-liter Suzuki K15C petrol engine is assisted by a 48-volt starter alternator, the system power is 103 hp, the torque is 137 Nm . The combustion engine is combined with a 5-speed manual transmission or a 6-band “automatic” transmission with torque converter.
An expensive option gets a “parallel hybrid” type system, which produces an excellent 92 horsepower. and 122 Nm The 1.5 liter Toyota M15A-FXE petrol engine is combined with a 79 hp electric motor, the total system power is 114 hp. The setup includes an eCVT variator and a lithium-ion battery. On purely electric traction, the car can cover a distance of up to 25 km.
The first of the listed changes can have front or four-wheel drive (at the buyer’s choice), the second assumes only the front.
The production of new items will be organized at the factory of the Indian branch of Suzuki Motor, but the sales region will include many developing countries.
