The electric Hunter, developed by UAZ together with the Czech MW Motors, will not be small-scale – at least not yet. The intention was to release the first batch in February 2022 and to sell these machines both in Europe and in Russia. Now, however, sanctions have put the project on hold, Gazeta.ru writes, citing a source in the Sollers group, which owns the UAZ.

The pre-production car was presented to the media in a test drive format in September 2021. Initially, the car was developed by MW Motors for a British mining company, but in the process of certification and technical assistance from UAZ, the idea arose to refine and locate the project in Russia.

The electric motor of the SUV shown produced 120 kW, powered by three traction batteries in the trunk and instead of ordinary gas tanks. The five-speed gearbox, like other parts of the chassis, remained unchanged. The electro-Hunter’s mileage on a single charge was claimed to be 262 km. European price – from 40 thousand euros.

If the electric Hunter were successful, other electric-powered UAZs could make an appearance, including the flagship Patriot and the cargo Profi. Experts say that such a project can now be carried out if state aid is received – if UAZ fits into the electric vehicle development program announced by the Ministry of Economic Development. However, this has not happened.

  • Now UAZ is preparing a new development strategy.
  • “Behind the wheel” can be read in Odnoklassniki.
