AvtoVAZ accuses Chinese car brands of competing with Lada

In July, Lada sales increased by 28.1% year-on-year to 37 thousand units, but still fell short of expectations, the press service of AvtoVAZ reported.

“AvtoVAZ’s sales plan for July 2024 was 40.2 thousand Lada cars, and it was realized by 94% <…> The company noted a decline in sales of the most equipped versions of the flagship Lada Vesta, investing about 5 billion rubles in localization and restoration of comfort and safety options.

AvtoVAZ attributes the deterioration in sales to the decline in the availability of car loans and the expansion of Chinese brands, which “continue to squeeze domestic manufacturers into the least marginal segments of cars with minimum equipment.”

AvtoVAZ president Maxim Sokolov called for protecting the Russian market from foreign manufacturers by increasing recycling collection.

“Encouraging foreign investment in our automotive, parts and other sectors by increasing protective barriers against direct and hidden imports today and tomorrow will make Russian industry stronger and more technologically dominant,” he said.
