Ford sharply reduces production of F-150 Lightning pickups

American automobile manufacturer Ford has reduced the production of Lightning pickup trucks due to the decrease in demand for electric vehicles. In this respect reports Carbuzz.com.

Starting next month, the number of workers in the production of electric pickup trucks at the plant in Dearborn (Michigan) will be reduced by two thirds: out of 2.1 thousand people working in three shifts, only 700 will remain there. Another 700 people will be transferred to another facility where Rangers and Broncos are assembled. The rest will be offered a retirement package.

Ford planned to produce 180,000 F-150 Lightning pickups but reduced that plan to 55,000 vehicles, according to Todd Dunn, president of the local chapter of the UAW union.

At the Bank of America Securities Auto Summit, Ford Chief Financial Officer John Lawler acknowledged that demand for electric vehicles is growing much slower than expected.
