In Europe, automobile experts will no longer give high safety scores to cars with many screens. In this respect he is writing The Times quoted Matthew Avery, director of development at the EuroNCAP association, which conducts independent crash tests.

In January 2026, Euro NCAP is set to establish a new protocol for assessing vehicle safety. One of the key points will be the presence of physical control buttons. According to Avery, the current trend among automakers to offer as many touch panels as possible has become an industry-wide problem. The association believes that it is screens that often cause drivers to become distracted from the road, increasing the risk of accidents.

EuroNCAP plans to encourage companies to use physical controls for at least basic functions. These include turn signals, emergency warning light button, audio signal and emergency call switch for the eCall system (European analogue of ERA-GLONASS). Cars without physical elements will receive low scores from auto experts.
