Buying a car at online car auctions carries the risk of encountering scammers. In this respect reported Oleg Amirov, President of the Association of Automobile Experts and Appraisers, in an interview with Sputnik radio. He reminded that today Russians have the opportunity to purchase a foreign car from foreign online auctions through intermediaries who promise to purchase the car and deliver it to the Russian Federation. But scammers often operate under the guise of themselves and deliberately undercut the prices of goods.
“This is a common theme. In any case, the price of a car being too low is the first sign of a scam. As a rule, on such websites, cars are offered at prices 30-40% below the market price,” says Amirov.
Another sign that may indicate scammers is an offer to buy via cryptocurrency. According to the auto expert, payment for a legal transaction in an online auction occurs in stages: when a contract is signed, when the car is auctioned and when documents are completed. Intermediaries operating in accordance with the legislation of the Russian Federation have a legal entity and receive payments to a bank account, so other schemes are aimed at fraudulently withdrawing money. Once you become a victim of criminals, it is no longer possible to get your money back.
Amirov also emphasized that intermediaries should be selected very carefully and carefully.
“Even if the company actually buys and delivers cars and has no serious intention to deceive the customer, there are still many risks in principle. For example, you need to take into account that all cars at auctions have some kind of insured event history in one way or another – they do not sell flawless cars there. Therefore, use only the services of reliable companies. Look how long they’ve been around, what their reputation is like. And don’t forget the expression “the miser pays twice.”
