Almost all leaks of technical fluids under the hood of a car are a sign of a serious malfunction. Aleksey Ruzanov, technical director of the international network of car service centers Fit Service, told socialbites.ca. According to him, if leaks are not taken care of, this can eventually lead to expensive machine repairs.
“Puddles under the car are an unpleasant surprise for the driver. For example, the power steering fluid will completely leak out when the engine is running within two minutes, after which the pump will run “dry” and fail. And it’s not cheap. If the cooling system hose breaks, the fluid will drain out in about five minutes. Then, the engine will start to overheat while the engine is running, which will lead to a major overhaul of the unit,” said the auto expert.
If a puddle is detected, the first thing to do is to turn off the engine. Then check all technical fluid levels. This is the easiest way to determine what is working and where it is coming from. The expert warned that stories about starting the engine for 10-15 minutes or going to the nearest service center are very dangerous.
“There is only one safe leak under the hood of a car; concentration. This type of water occurs when the air conditioner operates. Roughly speaking, a puddle will form under the front passenger’s feet or under the pedals, Ruzanov said.
