A police officer in Florida opened fire on his own patrol car, where an African-American suspect was handcuffed at the time. Law enforcement officers mistakenly mistook the sound of an acorn falling on the roof of the car for the sounds of a gunshot. In this respect reports NBC News.
The incident occurred in November 2023, but video from a law enforcement officer’s body camera is only now available to view online. Initially, an Okaloosa County police officer responded to a call from a woman complaining that her partner had not returned her car and was threatening her.
A black man was taken into custody and handcuffed to the patrol car. As the officer was walking away from the SUV, he heard the sound of an acorn hitting the car and was terrified, thinking the shooting had started. The employee began rolling on the ground and yelling that he was injured. Police emptied a magazine into the car, but soon realized he was uninjured. The prisoner was miraculously unhurt, but he was very frightened. After the incident was investigated by state authorities, the officer was fired from the police force.
