Daihatsu Engine Chairman Soichiro Okudaira will resign following scandal over fraud in crash safety tests. This will happen on March 1, 2024. In this respect reports Reuters. The new president will be Masahiro Inoue, who is currently Toyota Motor’s director in Central and South America.
The issue that arises concerns the falsification of data that Daihatsu provides to obtain government certification for vehicles. In April 2023, violations related to four car models were detected, and a special independent commission was subsequently established to investigate the incident. It found more than 170 violations covering dozens of models, including those sold under the parent company Toyota brand.
As a result, deliveries of all Daihatsu vehicles and models sold under the Toyota brand in Japan and abroad are currently suspended. Production of a number of models was suspended in April 2023.
