BMW plans to equip the 2 Series cars produced in its Mexican factory with a lightweight carbon fiber roof. In this respect reports Carbuzz.

It is expected that such a roof will be equipped with both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions of the car. The new part will help reduce the car’s weight and improve dynamic performance. A similar part installed on a “charged” BMW M2 allows the car’s weight to be reduced by 21.8 kg.

The car is also expected to receive improved interior trim, new wheel designs and two new colors. No possible technical changes were announced. Currently, the car is equipped with a 6-cylinder in-line twin-turbocharged engine producing 382 hp. With 8-speed automatic transmission.

Previously Volkswagen showed Pre-production version of the updated Golf R.
