Using expired antifreeze in the vehicle cooling system may cause the pipes to rust and rupture. reports “Rossiyskaya Gazeta”, citing Alexander Nosko, service manager of the Fresh automotive market.

“Although most drivers believe that antifreeze has no expiration date, it does. Depending on the brand, it can last from two to four years, and in exceptional cases up to 10 years. If the antifreeze has expired, water begins to be released, which triggers corrosion in the cooling system.” said.

According to him, low-quality antifreeze has a lower boiling point, while for normal coolant this value is 106-108 °C. Boiling the liquid at low temperatures can cause the cooling system pipes to rupture. In this case, it is better to completely replace the antifreeze in the cooling system rather than mixing it. The expert specifically pointed out that mixing green and red antifreeze is strictly prohibited.
